Industries such as food and pharmaceutical production often involve the processing of dry goods such as powders and granules. This can be as raw ingredients or in a semi-finished or finished state. In dry form, these goods are often transferred from the various stages of production using pneumatic conveying systems. This involves blowing, pumping, or sucking air through a series of enclosed or airtight pipes.
This can be at the unloading stage of raw materials during tanker or bulk bag discharge or at subsequent stages such as pre- or post-silo storage, mixing and blending right through to the packing of finished goods in bulk bags.
Pneumatic conveying can be categorised into lean phase pressure, lean phase vacuum, dense phase pressure, or dense phase vacuum. The lean phase methods involve moving lower material concentrations at higher speeds, whereas the dense phase usually involves higher material concentrations and is moved at lower speeds.
While fully enclosed, pneumatic systems are still at risk of contamination from ferrous particles. Either tramp metal entering the process at raw material intake or subsequent ultra-fine particles caused by process wear on equipment.
Pneumag is a high-performance magnetic separator designed to fit in-line on lean or dilute phase conveying systems. A dense-phase option is also available. It consists of a stainless-steel housing that holds a series of high-intensity, easy-clean magnetic cartridges, or rods.
The magnetic cartridges or rods are expertly positioned to ensure that the maximum flow of material is exposed to the magnetic field. When process material flows through the magnetic field, ferrous particles are attracted to the magnets, thereby removing contaminants from the process.
Cleaning is simple and can be done in minutes. The magnetic cartridges can be completely removed and then cleaned manually or by using the optional “easy-clean” design feature which allows removal of the magnetic cores from the cartridge. Click here to see how Pneumag works.
